1959-Flor’s 15/New York Cousins/Passover #1

Here we go, magazine #1. A note on the naming convention which will be of the form yyyy-name-x, where:

  • yyyy = year noted on the magazine by my parents
  • name = text description on magazine as written by my parents
  • x = ordinal number of magazine as I scan it in, remember I am scanning randomly

This magazine is older than I remember as I was only four and while it is nominally about my sister’s 15th birthday there really aren’t many pictures of her. My younger sister, Melissa, at one years old has more of a starring role as ‘the tank’ (see picture).

My father, Len, and my sister, Melissa, in the living room at 56 Edgewood Rd.

There are some great shots of my cousins from New York, we always got a kick out of the fact that they used to say they were coming to the ‘country’ to visit us in Linden, NJ the town with the oil refineries on the NJ Turnpike.  Was the turnpike even built in 1959?

  1. I don’t remember when the Turnpike was built. In my mind, it was “always there”. Maybe Dad will remember.

Also, re “the tank”, it was my sensitive high school (male) friends, who gave her that nickname, closer to the time Melissa was 3, when she had amazing rolls of adorable “fat” on her arms and legs. A beautiful child, especially with her auburn hair.
